With all due respect to Kim Keller, and other KSC employees,
who fell in love with the space-shuttles, its day will soon pass.
Those (admittedly) beautiful pieces of space-hardware will be museum artifacts in 10 years.
But!...The shuttle SRB's could and should be salvaged.
Keeping the SRB's for lunar and Mars missions will allow
MORTON THIOKOL employees to keep receiving paychecks.
ALSO, a pair of shuttle SRB's strapped onto a "stretched" DELTA-IV heavy-lift booster could raise its payload to LEO from 26,000 kilograms upto 40,000 - 50,000 kilograms (50 metric tons)...
allowing upto 20 metric tons of hardware to fly to the moon.

The shuttle is going the way of the dinosaur.
