re: Space: Who Should,

Up to now, astronauts have a team spirit, obey orders and follow the instructions from the ground.
And they get the job precisely because they have that team spirit in their mind.
Earlier astronauts (the first 2 or 3 selections of them) had shown more individualistic characters, with a test pilot mind and a commanding mind.
The interesting thing is that those who got the most interesting missions and who flew up to 3 or 4 times, also were astronauts who had no problem being commanded, at least for their first flight.
I think of Young, Lovell, Scott, Cernan, Conrad...
But over the years, the team spirit became so strong that even a guy like John Young became kind of a loner among the TFNG's (thirty five new guys).

But if a millionaire were to fly to space, he could take much more eccentric guys with him. It's uncertain how more creative people could perform in space.
Maybe it's a disaster waiting to happen or the next best thing for space.
