The movie Apollo 13 was inspired by Lovell's own book about the event.
It's an interesting story, but there's a problem: It was a failure. It wasn't supposed to happen that way. And that flight is (for the moment, I hope) the only spaceflight for which an entire movie was devoted to.
Apollo 15 , 16 and 17 were far far more interesting. Nothing life threatening happened, the missions were great successes but because nothing dangerous took place, the flights are not worth devoting an entire book or movie to.
I'd find it really twisted if, in order to attract the public's interest to Mars, a Mars movie must involve the death of several crewmen, even if the whole plot is very convincing. No government agency (nor private company) would want that to happen to their astronauts.
The real Mars mission must, therefore, be as boring as possible (safe, I mean) and here's the contradiction! Make it safe, make it boring.
Make it dangerous and lots of people (not just the astronauts) will suffer the consequences.
