I just have problems with Hellas as an impact event. If Hellas was only deeper!
It is fun to speculate as to what various processes occurred on mars - but Nick is right in saying we should suspend our preconceptions and just apply the data. However, even random data get plugged into our preconceptions. We inadvertantly and automatically apply our geological understanding of earth to mars.
What new mysteries await our discovery? What new elements? What new processes?
Time and exploration will tell!
