Not only that...

...but don't you think, Tom, that Boeing or Lockheed
already have detailed 'blueprints' and CAD-CAM designs
for a 3-4 man (Apollo-type) space-capsule
stored away somewhere?

All that is needed for a basic fullscale "mock-up" to be
build on short notice is...the word from O'Keefe, and
Boeing's CEO saying, "let's start cutting metal!
Get them jigs and templettes ready for the machine-tools!"
(I'm assuming they still use jigs and templettes with
manufacturing machine-tools)

Look! It took only a little more than SEVEN YEARS from Kennedy's
announcement in May/1961 until the Apollo-8 CSM circled the moon.

Seven years from today is 2011; a few months after the last shuttle
would be retired.

"We choose to go to the moon, and do those OTHER THINGS,
not because they are easy, but because they are hard."

John F. Kennedy
