Yeah, But how long would 500 robotic missions take?
5 or 6 hundred years? Even if NASA was able to launch 50 Mars robot probes every 2.whatnot years, is the public willing to wait that long (and spend that much) without actually sending someone?
I don't think most tax payers would see the point unless somewhere & somewhen, people are going to follow those robots.
