Switzerland practices referenda and as a result, women have not been allowed to vote until only very recently. It's very true people vote more with their guts than their heads.

In democracies, we vote for people who take decisions representing us.
If that guy decides things I don't agree with, next time I'll vote for the one who does decide things I agree with.

Too often people say no in a referendum not because they don't agree with the voted issue but because they don't like the guy or the party which proposed the referendum.

I'm not aware there are many or even any referenda in the US. Does that make the US a tyranny?
