re: Is the lighter colored rock dissolving?

And could that be why it looks "rotten" and why there appears to be no erosion debris from the light-colored rock?

Can a thin, cold carbon dioxide atmosphere serve as a solvent? Can the rock dissolve directly into the atmosphere?
