The anti-Bush forces would shift gears smoothly, and the issue would become the quantities found not matching the predictions.
There is nothing on Earth Bush can do or not do that will change the minds of these people.
When Saddam was caught, they utterly dismissed it. When or if Osama is caught, this too will be dismissed as unimportant. A free Iraq is unimportant. The destruction of the Taliban is unimportant. An economy growing like gangbusters on all levels except employment, which is simply growing, is unimportant.
The fact that Bush was in the National Guard, and not in Vietnam, has, after eight years, suddenly become critically important. Go figure.
As far as Bush is concerned, the only possible good news to these people would be his election loss.
