re: No...

Yeah, I read that issue.

Not impressed- it was a general hand-wave about the whole issue. Their main point was "when exporting killed manufacturing, we found IT, now that exporting is killing IT, we'll find something else".

That argument is faith-based nonsense as long as you can't identify that "something else". When manufacturing was in its sunset days as a middle-class profession, Tech was clear as a sucessor- Hell, I knew that as a kid in the the 80s when I was trying to figure out what to do 'when I graduated Highschool'. Now what do we have? Any ideas? And if so- how could it also not be exported.

Other pieces in that issue seemed to suggest we would become a nation of CEOs- an absurd proposition. How is it that we would be better at leading, organizing and managing Asian workers than, say, an Asian CEO?

And there is nothing about our educational system that can't be exported/implemented elsewhere (in fact it already is) to produce those CEOs.

A lot of the right wing elitists simply give a rueful grin and says 'thats how the game works, gov't has to stay out of it and we can't be protectionistic!'. Many of the folks on the right think american labor is a bunch of whiney good-for-nothings... Meanwhile they drive around in cars paid for and designed by american labor and reap the bulk of the reward for the fruits of american labor.

But the thing is- Indias Gov't is *very* involved in the process of targeting and stripping jobs from the west. The programmers are trained in *government funded* universities chok full of the best minds that Indias *government* could hire from around the world. The start up firms are *government* sponsored. Their funding comes in no small part from the indian *government*. The indian *government* helps them identify IT sectors ripe for the picking and helps their native businesses take those sectors for india.

The point is, the American right wing thinks this is great because it is making their constituency and their primary source of funding rich. They think this is just another move in the great economic 'game'. But its not. India and Asian countries have changed the game.

The future does not belong to de-regulation lassez-faire capitalism. History has shown that to be a failure, and clinging to those ideals now will not get America through the next hurdle. The future belongs to nationalistic capitalism. Countries that have formed an alliance between their entrepreneurs and their electorate. Every time an american CEO acts in his 'best interest' and ships a job to india- it just proves the indian method superior and determines the future evben more.

I spend much of may days now managing other peoples labor- I work hard... But I don't kid myself. I know who is *really* laying the golden egg. I'm just a midwife to the process (though I still get to hack for about 20 hours a week).

What people need to understand is that American Labor built these great companies and this economy- NOT the CEO. When the CEO acts in his/her best interest, it is not serving who really makes the business- the guy at his terminal or at the assembly line.
