"Bush is wsting money on Mars" is a common mantra that the Democrats are spewing at the moment. If they say it, but don't mean it what does that say about them? And what makes you think the line would change once they were elected and back in power? Will they just simply turn their backs on the constituants who got them elected?
It reminds me of my dear old mother who recently confronted Ted Kennedy on the abortion issue...
She told him that she has been a life long Democrat but she is strongly pro life, and while she wants to vote for the Democrats, she just can't do it while they continue to support abortion on demand, partial birth abortion, etc...
She walked away from her conversation with Ted believing that he and the Democrats really agree with her position BUT they must have the pro-abortion stance to get elected...
So for a moment my mother believed that if she would support the Democrats, then abortion might end...
After thinking about it, she came to the conclusion that it just doesn't add up...And she has concluded that Ted Kennedy just doesn't have the same values that his brother's had.
The long and short of it is: They can say one thing and do another as you suggest. But don't hold your breath waiting for a cance to get off this rock and onto another if you choose to buy into that crazy-assed logic.
