Constitutional amendments for social/religious ideas are almost always a bad idea

About the only exception I can think of where it wasn't a bad idea was the abolition of slavery, an idea that had its roots in what was largely a religious movement. Some might argue that giving women the vote would fall into this category as well.

To the point, the Constitution is supposed to be the guiding document on how the federal government works. It shouldn't be a laundry list for rights like the EU Constitution attempted. The long neglected 9th Amendment makes that unnecessary.

The only amendment to be overturned was Prohibition, an idea that was social/religious in nature and was an unmitigated disaster.

I don't support amendments to ban burning of flags, to define marriage, or just about any other such nonsense. That's not what the Constitution is for.
