re: Distinction: ARMXER dips into atmosphere, HASTOL does not

HASTOL, designed by Robert Forward, does not dip into the atmosphere, uses a tether less than 1000 km in length, and requires a hypersonic spacecraft to rendezvous with it. I haven't seen their simulation, but their video clip was indeed not-to-scale. I am also of the opinion that it is not a practical design.

ARMXER, designed by myself, dips into the atmosphere, uses a tether much longer than 1000 km, allowing slower rotation with a longer rendezvous window, permitting a transonic aircraft to rendezvous with it. My simulation, V1.0 is available for free, downloadable from my website. All things are to scale, although not accurate enough to justify data output, hence it doesn't provide any. Skyhook Simulator 2.0 will be far superior, in every way, but not downloadable, and certainly not free.
