I really doubt it. There's an easy way out, health problems. If he'd take it.

In 2000 he seemed to be a moderating influence, sort of a wise mentor advising the Kid.

Now, the Kid has credibility problems, and Cheney has them in spades. If Bush lied, then Cheney had hallucinations and regarded them as real. I remember watching him say on a Sunday morning that things were so bad in Iraq that the American troops would be welcomed as heroes, and in three months "the President will be regarded as a genius."

Instead of a mentor, he seems to be an evil force lurking behind the scenes, finding and slaying dragons only he sees, urging an even more reckless foreign policy based upon information which isn't shared by or with anyone other than Wolfowitz, apparently.

The idea of Cheney as President is even less attractive than it was in 2000. The guy is scary, frankly. And I'd bet he's dropped. I hope not, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him replaced by, maybe, that other fountain of truth, Condi Rice.
