re: Weather warning

So, the Cheif priest- I mean scientist makes some proclaimation. The spin is thick- and facts seem pretty thin.
Can there be abrupt climate shift? The historical evidence clearly shows this is possible- not just possible but it is "normal" throughout the planet's history for hundreds of millions of years. What is obvious [if you believe humans only appear in the last few millions of year- and you aren't some kook that thinks human were living with dinosaurs] is that human activity was not responsible for this abrupt change in climate.
What is not clear is the relationship between CO2 and climate change. If we are near the time in which the planet will have an abrupt change and enter a ice age, there is little reason to suppose that if human completely stopped using hydrocarbons (used no cars, home heating or electricity which is dependent on hydrocarbons- not just in the US, but everywhere in the world) that would have any significant effect on global temperature or climate.
But [unlike what was said in the presentation] if we are heading towards an abrupt climate, and even if human aren't causing it, there could be something we could do to change this- or at least attempt to mitigate the consequences of it.

Now, what we need is more research into this area- not stupid handwaving by clueless idiots. Fortuately, the US is leading the world in studying this issue. And according to the article, it seems that even the US miltary is now using it's resources in order to assist in this effort. Now, it would be nice if all those other countries could expend some effort to studying this problem [rather wasting their resources blowing smoke on goofy projects] if they could match but 1/10th of the resources the US is spending studying this issue, we might get some answers quickier rather than later.
