Appears to be watching the party they formerly led crumble. Mulroney had a bleacer seat for the demise of the Progressive Conservatives, now Chretien laughs while his successor struggles to tame the scandals he left behind. It's hard to say at this point, but I'm not sure this will cause the Liberals the same sort of devastation Mulroney visited upon his PCs.

I suppose a potential benefit is that it clears the landscape for new political blood. Imagine what would happen if either the Democrat or Republican parties (or both) vanished over the course of a year or two. The resulting vacuum could draw all sorts of people and ideas into the arena...for good or ill.
