There are 2 websites I visit religiously:
Astronomy picture of the day, and www.nanopicoftheday.org
The two sites illustrate the extremes humans are conquering.
At my last job I was working on Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography- It uses 13 nm light to make features on silicon. Current Lithography uses a wavelength 10 times longer. The wavelength determines the feature size you can make, and the transistor density on a chip roughly goes as the inverse square of the feature size. EUVL has the potential to make features that are as small as you can go in silicon and still have useable circuits. Here is an example:
Last I heard Intel was committed to developing EUVL for chip production...
Other work such as LIGA and MEMS is just as fascinating-
Tweezers with a 25 nm gap:
Or how about the worlds smallest abacus, using individual buckyballs as the "beads":
and this is a cool pic:)
and a motor few 100 nm across:
Hendrix was good, but could he play this?
it is amazing!
