Thanks for the comments.
Believe you me, I don't believe in this abundant water thing. I know alot about "Caliche", "case hardening", etc., and the last thing I expect is an exposed water table on Mars. My curent thoughts are electrostic cohesion and a very small percentage of intersticial ice that over billions of years, given temperature fluctuations and other factors, acts as a wick for a solution-precipitation processes. Expose flour to these temps and see if it ain't sticky, huh? Heck, plaster of paris acts this way. Starting to think I sould get a press pass and go and ask some questions that have been posted on this board. Not all the questions, mind you, but alot of them. Or forking out alot of bucks to go to this poster seesion in Houston in March.
It ain't mud.
There are descriptions of "crusts" at the Spirit site , and others...was it a "veniform crust"? Oh, I don't remember, I've read too much lately and am too tired to post the exact reference. It's in the "full102.pdf" that I keep linking to.
I'm on about sulfates, if it ain't obvious already, and I want the DATA, for heaven's sake. I'm 'bout ready to go to the flame board and go on a real rant.

Missed the conference, wish they'd post a transcript.
