The gag about the technicians going bald would be something to think about. What are the chances of something, however small, being knocked into the field of view when you shove the arm into the dirt? However, I'm sure this occurred to the rover people, and I would imagine that the arm, like many other rover components, was assembled under strict clean room conditions.
