"Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery."
And if you are a Hollywood movie star (or director or producer) it's a problem which prison time is only done after repeative arrests. Of course in Hollywood it's ok because it part of social events- ok, long as you handle it and don't completely lose it.

"Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion."

Well Stalin was a "good" guy too. And Kennedys thought Hilter was swell.

"A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money."

Well at least some have seen this terrorist threat as an act of war, and not merely as a criminal problem to be handled by underfunded Keystone cops or "powerful" words from the debating society.

"The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq."

No one is talking about getting out of UN- perhaps moving the UN building to someplace other than the US has some merits. Not having the US pay such a high percentage of the total cost of UN has some merits- or if we are going to pay this much we should have more control on how it's being spent- meaning we should be able to limit the amount of waste and corruption in the UN.
As far as U.N resolution against Iraq. Iraq invade Kuwait. This was a clear violation of international law. Kuwait was a member of the UN. A coalition formed from UK leadership and lead by the US was organized and was blessed by UN to oppose this unlawful aggression. Then after Saddam was thrown out of Kuwait, the cease fire agreement was brought to the UN and was adopted as a resolution. The sovereign "right" of the coalition members to declare war on an aggressive state was not weakened by involving the UN, but instead should have be seen as strengthening it. By insisting that the members of the coalition be required to get UN approval to enforce a cease fire agreement, one is effectively handing over sovereign power to the UN and makes further involvement in the UN undesirable since that would be seen as a barrier to enforcing future agreements.

"Group sex and drug use are degenerate sins unless you someday run for governor of California as a Republican."

People in leadership positions in government should not be having group sex and using drugs. I think both the Republicans and the Dems could agree on this.
But if you legalize same sex marriage at the federal level, why stop there, what would be wrong with group sex? Is that just another silly inhibition imposed by society? And then why not have it legal for people to be married to their siblings. It's "natural" and has tons of examples of this in history. What about sex with children?

"If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.
Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony."

Condoms and Cuba a wonderful combination. Condoms: If you hand some one a shovel, or expect them to bring a shovel, then it reasonable to think that someone wants you to dig. Cuba: The dicator using power of the state took the property away for their owners. If the dicator wants to discuss the idea of returning at least some of this property, then we will begin talking.

"Government should relax regulation of Big Business and Big Money but crack down on individuals who use marijuana to relieve the pain of illness."
We should have regulations which are clear and fairly managed. The regulations should be designed to increase the wealth of it's citizens, and respect the ownership rights of citizens. The government exists to serves the people, not the people exist to serve the government. The number of lines in a computer code is not a good measure of the value of the computer code- the less code required the better. This is particular true of regulation- more rules doesn't mean better rules. More forms to fill in does not mean things are better. If it takes a year in order to get permission to do something, then this is bad sign. The big problem with too much regulation is it wastes time. Time is money. Time is also life. Wasting time is wasting money. Wasting time is also wasting lives. How many lives has our govt murdered with it's excessive regulation? As Steve Jobs puts it, if you can fiqure out how to save a few seconds in the computer start up, you can save thousands of lives. If you think of how many million of people are going start their computer every day and count up all those wasted seconds you get a lot of seconds- and if you allow that each person life is equal to some average amount of seconds. Using this type of calucations, govt regulations are a HUGE killing machine. They kill tons of govt employees and murder it's citizens. Just think of the number of hours wasted by all the people required to read regulations- nevermind actually following them. So, it would be worthwhile to spend some time shortening this code- and you might save a few trees needed for the required paper.

" "Standing Tall for America" means firing your workers and moving their jobs to India."

If I own a small business with say a dozen workers. And I'm not making enough profit and/or simply not finding it enjoyable enough. I can stop running my business. The workers are not entitled to continue having their jobs. Ethically and legally I should warn my workers that I'm going out of business. Now, businesses are worth money, so what actually happens is I don't just stop running the business- unless I'm in bankruptcy. Instead I sell the business, I could sell it to one of my workers or I could sell it an outside party. I can sell the whole thing or pieces of the company. I own the business [though of course the business could have high debt- meaning to some extent I don't own it- the lender has an interest in the business- which must be satified if I sell].

"A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation."

There is nothing wrong with "multi-national corporations making decisions affecting all mankind without regulation". Ghadhi made decisons affecting mankind without having regulation. If a woman decides to put spike through her nose, or decide to have some medical operation not a issue of whether or not she can be trusted.

"Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals."

"Kill a human, save a tree."

"The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay."

The best way to raise morale is for the political leadership to have confidence in knowledge and honor of the miltary leadership and let them conduct the war using their best judgement.

"HMOs and insurance companies have the interest of the public at heart."

The public should be able to choose which health provider they can use.

"Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy."

Obviously you wouldn't know a sound policy if it smacked
you on the head.

"Providing health care To all Americans is socialism."

Get in line for your health care is socialism

"Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools."

What is taught in school should not be dicated from Washington, though if Federal Funds is providing funding it should be able to least measure the results of this funding.

"A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense.
A president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy."

A President lying to a grand jury could be an impeachable offense.
American President enlisting support for a war in which America soldiers are fighting and dying is expected- and could be argued to be close treason if the President is not doing this with enough vigor.

"The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business."

Gee, he got one right. Amazing, what are the chances?

"You support states' rights, which means Attorney General John Ashcroft can tell states what local voter initiatives they have a right to adopt."
Ashcroft can say whatever he likes and so can the states, but NO one can tell citizens what local initiatives they have a right to adopt.

"What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant."

I'm trying to think if Clinton ever did anything of "vital national interest", but before he was President, it's quite certain he didn't.
As far as President Bush, at this point after 3+ years in office, what's relevant is what he did while in office. Before Bush had become President, something he did in the '80s might have been relevant.
