WASHINGT0N (Reuters) - With the U.S. presidential election campaign under way, late night comedy television show hosts are taking a humorous look at the candidates.
Here are some lines broadcast on Friday:
NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno":
"According to a new poll, if the election were held today, both John Kerry and John Edwards would beat President Bush by double-digit margins. The White House is so worried about this they are now thinking about moving the capture of Osama bin Laden up to next month."
"President Bush says he is focusing more and more on jobs. Yeah, his own."
"President Bush is now on the campaign trail more and more. Most Republicans say they don't want to see him serve four more years. The National Guard said, 'hey, we'd like to see him just serve his last two years, what happened to that.'"
CBS' "The Late Show with David Letterman":
"It looks like President Bush will be handing over power to the Iraqis by June 30. Not only that, it looks like he'll be handing over power to the Democrats by November 2."
