An excellent idea for saving hubble!
"What we are proposing is to use a system that is powered by ion thrusters that would go and pick up the Hubble and then bring it back to the International Space Station orbit," Wingo said. "From there, NASA could service the Hubble with a shuttle or maybe from the space station."
"What is interesting to me is that you have to send something up to Hubble either way," Cowing said. "Without shuttle, NASA is faced with having to send something up to grab onto Hubble and then propel it back to Earth. What's the difference here? Why not send something that is going to put it back into orbit?"
This is an outstanding idea and the technology developed will be of excellent use in moving other satelites and even the ISS someday if so deemed desirable.
