Nixon, when the Watergate scandal was occupying the news, was considerably rejected by the US public opinion. He was much more hated in the US than abroad. I remember feeling kind of neutral about what happened but also admiring the US democracy for its ability to clean up this mess.
Now, Bush junior is much more disliked abroad than inside the US, as he took the responsability of waging a war with thousands of casualties and with no internationally recognized reasons.
We are immune from US Patriotism but when I see the President constantly remind the population that "we're at war" and "we're winning the war" as there are no terrorist actions inside the US, it reminds me of BD who won't allow samples back from Mars for fear of contaminating the Earth while there are so many reasons why it won't happen anyway.
