re: Shannon / Heisenberg

I think it's fascinating that until now the maximum bitrate of a signal was based on the signal power-to-noise power ratio, specifically Shannon's Law, found here on pg. 47. Power is the rate of transfer of energy. For example, so that it's frequency or amplitude could be measured, the photon's energy had to be converted to electricity, in other words the photon had to be utterly destroyed for communication to take place. That is no longer an ultimate limitation to bitrate. While a photon continues to exist inside an optical trap multiple measurements can be made. There is still some issue as to how many of the original entangled photons are involved, some assume 100 percent, others between 2 and 10 percent, so signal-to-noise ratio may take on a new form. I can't wait for the technology to develop.

The sky is the limit.
