Looks kinda plain inside, as you say. There appears to be a ready-made smooth exit ramp pointing more or less in the direction of the hills.

What is the feature part way down in the crater in the second image? It almost looks like a smaller secondary impact crater (or tertiary since it's all inside Gusev?).... although it almost looks like a cinder cone or mud cone, too...

Maybe another similar feature on the left side of that image in the bottom of Bonneville? Smaller ones between the two? Hmm, this could be interesting to investigate after all.
