Back in WWII, the US became as big a terrorist state as exists with it's intentional carrying of the war to the Japanese and German civilian populations. The statistics of those atrocities are horrendus.
And those firebombings took place even when there were many legitimate military targets left. In the book "Piercing the Third Reich", Joseph E. Persico quotes many messages from Allied moles with the descriptions of factories, railroads and refineries operating while civilians were being targeted.
These moles reported that these bombings were stiffening resistance, as many soldiers had no family left to whom to return, decided they may as well fight.
Since then the US has been extremely casual regarding civilians, in Vietnam, and in Afghanistan and Iraq. When the war is carried to them, they get irate, forgetting that foreigners are as attached to their countries and loved ones as WASPs.
Tragic. But we started it, in a very real sense.
