The Chinese will do a sample return to demonstrate technological prowess but the resulting science will be negligible. The Soviets did the same thing with their Luna 20 spacecraft (landed in 21 Feb 1972, more than 2 years after Neal Armstrong). The Chinese would be better off with landing a person on the Moon or attempt a Mars sample return. An ordinary lunar sample return is old hat.
