These pictures where taken with the solar filters. These two filters have special coatings that reduce light transmission by a large factor.

I'm not sure why they were using the sun filters, but I think it would require extremely long exposures to get images of the ground. These long exposures would increase the effects of internal camera noise.

Anyone know why they would use a solar filter?
