So how do we keep the Iranian dissidents etc. from screwing us the same way?

That is now, and was prior to the invasion of Iraq, the $64,000 question. There are a lot more sources other than dissidents which lead one to believe that Iran is trying to build a bomb. U.N. data indicates the same thing.
