JIMO to include cryobots!
According to this article it may be in the cards!
The added capabilities offered by Prometheus also would make it possible for JiMo to send down space probes that could function as mini-submersibles, plunging into and burrowing through the frozen ice fields to dive deeply into the alien oceans. The space subs then would transmit back their discoveries -- possibly including images -- to JiMo in orbit, which would relay the data back to mission controllers on Earth.
If they sent JIMO without some type of landers it would be very shortsighted. Who knows when the next spacecraft to Jupiter will be launched after JIMO? A number of cryobots would be awesome! I hope they use tried and true airbag technology to get them to the surface. Obviously there wouldn't be the parachute part but no need to totally reinvent the wheel here.
