I recall that they were using biotech, but can't find any convincing links on the subject. Funny contradiction, if so.

In the movies, it's usually the bad guys that try to get Armageddan started, and the good guys who fail to stop them. So in real life, it's the fundies. Kind of creepy of them to believe the prophesies, and then act to make them true. Almost like they don't believe they will come true without their intervention. Which implies that they really don't believe them... going to get dizzy and fall down if I don't stop this.
