Opportunity sets Mars single day distance record: 100m!
Opportunity is closing in on Spirit's mission success and set a new drive-distance record Monday, roving 328 feet (100 meters) in a single jaunt
Apparently they are now in the process of uploading the new software which will produce much faster driving performance. If Opportunity can roll 100m in one roll now it may double that soon. With the mission extended until at least September that could make some of the really huge craters nearby within reach!
The plan as I read is after checking out Endurance Crater to head south to the white area to look for potential fossils. If Opportunity has the capability to do a kilometer/week it could make it to the very large crater due south in a couple months and that includes stopping along the way too!
