The universe could be wrapped and much smaller than we think as Luminet suggests.
What fascinates me is that sometimes we want something very badly but then we get something quite different...with a result.
For instance: our martian fantasies might become true. But the martians would not be from Mars, rather our own descendants.
We're searching for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (like us more or less), but our planet itself might acquire a self awareness (and that could be quite frightening) and it could contact other planets with a consciousness.
We dream of very long voyages, but if we could take a shortcut....
Perhaps its a machine that will make the biggest discovery of all time and not a human.
We might very well expand throughout the universe, however it won't really be us, but something else like a cyborg.
Our culture makes us change far faster than we can imagine.
I'm here, in Belgium, but I'm aslo communicating with you on the other side of the world! And every day!
10 years ago that would have been unimaginable.
