about the only way out of this mess that I can see is for Sharon to withdraw from the West Bank settlements in exchange for the Palestinians dropping their claim of a right of return to Israel proper.

Sharon's idea of taking all of the land around Jerusalem is going to lead to nothing in the end except massive Israeli casualties, along with massvie Moslem casualties.

I know Saddam was a really bad man, and had to go, but as to early planning by the "neocons" for the Iraq war, either Bush was really, really stupid and did not know they were planning it, or he is simply lying to the American people - Take your choice, both of them are bad.

In either case going into Iraq without UN support was one of the dumbest US moves in recent history - and its pretty much turning out exzctly as I called it -
