LOL, Lee! The object was to keep the Germans' mitts off the oil fields in the Caspian Sea region, which was Germany's strategic objective in invading Russia. Killing a few million Slavs was just byplay, a bonus for the racial purity crowd, just as wiping out a Communist state would have been icing on the cake for the Nazi poli sci geeks. Germany needed oil for its war machine. They knew there was none in France before they invaded it.
