If we bought these today, I doubt we could have them deployed
-Procurement time
= the time to agree on a package and a cost, to bring the product to US army standards, to agree on features, to catch the product up to features desired
-Funding battles
= who pays for it?
= why should we buy this when we have _____ coming in three months thats paid for already
= if you wait 4 more weeks we can have this instead (4 weeks is a lie/stalling tactic)
= doesn't system 'X' make thi sobsolete (no, but the powers that be think so)
= deploying systems A and B both see it as a threat to funding, lobby to get it cut. . .
-Soldier training (whose gonna fly em?)
= currently they have a hard enough time trying to train engineers to be MPs, no we need whole new MOS for these new soldeirs, thats 2 1/2 months basic, 2-6 months Advanced training, to merely start filling the ranks up
-Red Tape
= units will have to be authorized these MOSs (aparently this is not easy)
I could go on. . . but I gotta go to lunch
One of my main jobs right now is to try to get systems that my unit already has procured working with each other. All of this stuff is developed in a vaccum, it just doesn't jump out of a box and integrate itself.
