The European Union reminds me of the structure of the Confederate States of America. Under the CSA, states for more like countries, with some being more powerful than others. Has the CSA been successful, would we have seen a state go to war with its neighbor states? Would the whole Union have broken apart into individual countries?
Perhaps the idea of many smaller ‘countries’ unioned together to form a large country, was ahead of its time in the 1860’s. Perhaps it will work in Europe.
A big difference between the CSA and the EU is that the CSA went from a united states to a united countries, and it probable would have lead to separate, un-united countries (A digression, if you asked me).
The EU, on the other hand, has evolved from individual countries to united countries. Will they evolve into a united states? Is there a USE in the future?
