I agree with some reports. I'm pretty sure these people were told by an parallel command structure outside the chain of command to "soften" up the prisoners, and how to do it.

Pretty sure it was CIA, Military Intelligence and/or the civilians to whom the Pentagon outsourced the interrogations.

(Using civilians the Pentagon can maintain deniability for abuses. Chickenshit way to do things, a bit like the fiction that Guantanamo isn't American.)

The American guards aren't any prizes, can't be the brightest bulbs in the chandelier, but I'm positive they were ordered by people who aren't accountable.

They will hang the chain of command out to dry, leave the CIA, MI and civilians alone.

And that's just another part of the grand tragedy.

Another part is the callous attitude of conservatives.
