re:Scott's views about Mars

Yes, Del, it was a joy ro see him, on that video!

Scott said there must be a compelling, unifying reason to send humans to Mars.
He also reminded his experiences: a single thruster failure shortened and endangered Gemini 8.
On Apollo 15, he had known a water leak, broken glass in the LM and a parachute failure at splashdown, but none of those failures were threatening the mission. Because they learn and know how to correct and improve systems.
That's why sending a crew to Mars , land, and return back is going to be much more difficult than the Mars Society suggests.

He also said that we went to the Moon to set foot on the nearest celestial body , but what we discovered is that we instead set our eyes on Earth, from the Moon!
