Lindy, the parallel with hazings has been drawn by many people, although most of them describe military experiences rather than college ones. As much as you might like to think that Rush Limbaugh controls all our minds, I dare say I get my information from wider sources than you do.
That does not, of course, make it equivalent. Someone being hazed, even severely, knows that at the bottom, he is surrounded by friends, and that the ordeal will end with nobody the worse off.
