re: Misunderstanding
Outrage is an emotional and principled response, and is not limited solely to those areas where America has responsibility and legal authority. It implies that because the man who sawed off that kid's head was not a signatory to the Geneva Convention, that it somehow means we shouldn't be as upset about it or raise as much hell as we have over the prison scandal.
America screws up, so we give America grief. Fine. Maybe even appropriate. But when Americans suffer abuse and harm, a lot of people still respond by giving America grief. I'm getting a little tired of it.
"We had it coming," is starting to make me grind my teeth.
