re: Screwdrivers in ISS
The "Russian" way of doing things in space vs. the "NASA" way has been a focus of attention in the private space industry since I started in it. There are definite pros and cons to each approach.
Common sense is needed. Think of a commercial cargo ship, or a Navy vessel. I would think that there would be a toolkit, probably in a bright orange box, mounted on the wall somewhere, like first-aid kits are.
I bet after that "lights out" incident in Mir there was a flashlight floating somewhere near where the Mir astronauts kept their screwdriver. ;)
Hey guys...battery-powered emergency lights? You can get them at the hardware store if your space facility has 110 V power plugs.
