``We're no longer sheltered as a nation by two big oceans.''
EMORY, Va. -- AP
Sen. John Warner assured Emory & Henry College graduates Saturday that a committee he chairs is committed to holding accountable those responsible for prisoner abuses at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.
Warner, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, called the abuses ``one of the most tragic chapters in our otherwise proud military history.'' He said those responsible ``up and down the chain of command'' will be held accountable.
He said the atrocities are the work of a small number of people and do not represent ``99.9 percent of the people in the Armed Forces who are carrying out this war with courage and with great sacrifice.''
