re: Sarin Found In Iraq - link, and some comments

Here.

The insurgents have been whipping up roadside bombs from a remarkable variety of old ordnance they've dug up from all over the place, including American weapons in some cases.

I would be extremely interested in knowing where these insurgents found this item. Just one old round laying in a forgotten dirtpile since the Gulf War? Or is there a stack of them somewhere? A forgotten stack, or something that was deliberately hidden? Since this is the only such incident after many months of such bombs, the "forgotten dirtpile" seems more likely at this point. Various sources say that Iraq's sarin weapons were binary, and as such did not have a limited shelf life.

I would also bet that the insurgents had no idea what they had, and now that they have heard about their find, will they be tempted to go back to wherever they got this round and look for more of these?

It will be very informative if more such rounds make an appearance in future bombs. It may also be significant if none do.

There is not a lot of information here. Was the round old and rusted? Did it have serial numbers or other identifying marks? Did the sarin appear only after the explosion, from binary mixing? I need a lot more data, and will wait and see what develops.

I hope they capture these guys and ask them some questions. Politely, of course.

I also hope that Bush supporters don't go off the deep end with this. It's too soon. (You paying attention, Rush?)
