Ball lightning is an obscure and unexplained phenomenon. Some scientists claim that it doesn't even exist and fits in the same category as UFOs and big foot. I believe ball lightning has a lot to teach us about plasma dynamics and could play a major role in fusion research. How plasma can stay contained in a stable form like that without massive magnetic fields, is something of a
mystery.
I have personally seen ball lightning once before and it is a very eerie sight. Three large reddish balls of light slowly descending from the sky one night as lighting flashed in the distance from an approaching thunderstorm. I watched them for 20-30 seconds before they went behind a tree line and I lost sight of them.
