Bob Dole: class act

You may or may not know, but last year Bob Dole endowed the Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas, his alma mater. The Institute now has a lecture series; guess who Dole invited former to give the inaugural lecture . . .

Senator Dole, who personally invited Clinton, said he was delighted his Democratic opponent in the 1996 Presidential campaign had agreed to kick-off the new lecture series. “I cannot think of a more appropriate person to inaugurate the Dole Lecture than President Clinton,” he said. “It sets entirely the right tone in terms of having the Institute embody non-partisan public service.”

I got to hear Dole's intro on Kansas Public Radio - unfortunately, there isn't a transcript yet (I'm hoping the Institute makes it available). He was funny, as well as serious about bipartisanship.

There isn't a transcript of Clinton's address available yet, either, but here's one of the earliest local newspaper articles.
