When Israel abandons Gaza then Arafat will have no choice about confronting Hamas
There's gonna be a wild free-for-all among Arafat's gang and other fundamentalist factions for control of Gaza, perhaps even civil war. Egypt is very worried about instability in Gaza and may ask the UN for permission to send soldiers across its border into Gaza to maintain order and also train Palestinian security forces. Obviously Egypt is supporting Arafat over the various Islamist groups, including Hamas.
