re: Criminals at the wheel - good examples.

Tailgating is a good example.

Refusing to give pedestrians the right of way. This happened to me once: crossing the street at a light, a driver was making a left turn, I looked at him and he waved me across. He stepped on the gas when I was in front of him. Obviously I picked up the pace, and he kept driving. I looked, and there was no license plate on the back of his van.

Another example, crossing the street very early in the morning. A driver slowed down for the red light, but then kept driving slowly through the intersection, missing me by perhaps 10 feet. He was looking me right in the eye while he drove past too. I didn't get the guy's license that time, but I should have.

Drivers taking side streets, to get around heavy traffic on the main routes. They tend to drive fast when they do it. I have seen several cars doing this in my neighbourhood, some with the rear license plate conspicuously absent!

Without cameras at intersections it is difficult to prove any of these. But cameras ARE available for use at intersections, to catch people that run red lights, and also on radar guns to catch speeders. It's just that people complain that THEIR rights are being violated. I think, what would be violated is their freedom to commit crime without evidence - the so-called "freedom" to be a JERK.

I believe that big brother, using technologies with highly specific technologies, is quite justified.
