Surveys

I've taken a number of random phone surveys, and have seen the same artificial questions in each case, although not quite as ambiguous as the ones on this survey. I have no problem pointing out to the survey person that among other things:

a) the questions assume premises that are false, or that I don't accept (very common).

b) there are usually at least two legitimate answers that were not among your choices.

c) the only way you can "somewhat agree" with a specific question is if you have oatmeal for brains.

I try and do this with good humor--the poor survey person didn't write the questions and is just trying to make a living. Most of them laugh along with me, and often agree (privately) that the survey seems to be leaning towards certain conclusions.

I have noticed a tendency for original survey questions and answers to be posted on the Net, which is a good thing. For many years, the only way we heard about this stuff is from media which paid to read the survey and then presented the "filtered" version to the rest of us.
