This is something I agree with you on. Money from faith based institutions should never come from taxation. If the faith based institution needs money to do humanitarian work, then let it raise the money through tithes, offerings or other community fundraising. Tax money should only be distributed to the needy through government organizations such as DSHS.

Also something faith based institutions should be wary of, is if the government gives them the money to do "good works" then the government has a say in the definition of "good works". This could fly in the face of what the organization believes in. One example, condom distribution to teenagers or to the population of Africa might be considered humanitarian services by the government and blatent encouragement of sin by the catholic church. There are other examples to be sure.
